Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA on canvasscout.com and in the Canvas Scout app.
What we've done
- Text and controls meet AA color contrast, including headlines over photos and gradients. We test this against the actual rendered pixels, not just the color codes.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, shows a visible focus outline, and has a “Skip to content” link.
- Forms have visible labels, say what's wrong in words when something's missing, and move you to the field that needs attention.
- The territory search follows the standard combobox pattern: arrow keys to move through results, Enter to pick one, Escape to close.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions; decorative images and animations are hidden from screen readers.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and smooth scrolling turn off. The scrolling strip of industries has a pause button.
- Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists, and zoom to 200% without losing content.
- We check every page with automated accessibility testing (axe-core) at desktop and phone sizes.
Known limitations
- The map itself is visual. In the app, finding businesses means panning and tapping a map, and there isn't yet a list view of the businesses on screen, so the app is hard to use with a screen reader today. A keyboard- and screen-reader-friendly list view is on our roadmap. Until then, email us and we'll send you your territory's businesses in an accessible format.
- Illustrative maps on canvasscout.com are decorative. The same information is in the text around them.
